City of Onkaparinga – Tour Down Under – Stage 5 – 2008

Rewards International in consultation with the City of Onkaparinga designed and produced a striking and novel trophy for the winner of the Tour Down Under Stage 5 event. The trophy has attracted enthusiastic praise from key figures in the sport.

When the City of Onkaparinga approached Rewards International about their need for a unique trophy to recognise the winner of Stage 5 of the Tour Down Under which they were hosting, Rewards International were excited about the opportunity.

The brief required the award to:

    • Feature part of a race bicycle
    • Be unique & distinctive
    • Have style & impact
    • Be in a satin silver finish
    • Be durable enough for international transport
    • Meet budgetary constraints and deadline
    • Include the wording…
    • "Winner Stage 5 Willunga to Willunga - Fleurieu Peninsula South Australia".

Tracy Hutchinson from the Onkaparinga Council’s Economic Development Unit suggested incorporation of a cog and pedal into the trophy design.  Rewards International were provided with an abstract image of a chain wheel and frame as a starting point. 

Tracy needed a quote and draft proof of the concept to present to Council.  Rewards International discussed the possibilities regarding variables like material type, process, design and timeline.  Having narrowed down the specifics Rewards International created sketches of concept through to final graphic proofs, keeping stakeholders informed throughout.



The outcome was the trophy pictured here which can also be seen on our website landing page.  Following the successful event Rewards International asked Tracy if anyone at the event commented on the award design and her response was, “Yes, Mike Turtur the Race Director was ecstatic, he said it was very original”.

Andre Greipel – a competitor from Germany - was the jubilant winner of Stage5; taking the award back to his home. 
Andre also took out top prize overall, Congratulations!
